Kristy Dutton and Susan Sherman, our June 2019 Volunteers of the Month are all about care. Susan and Kristy are faithful volunteers who serve on the Community Advisory Board for Tim Cook, chief executive officer of AdventHealth Altamonte Springs. They are also active co-chairs of the now Fourth Annual Heroes for Babies event and share a passion to care for and support families who are in need.
Each year nearly 2,600 babies are delivered at AdventHealth Altamonte Springs, but not every family has the financial means to support their new bundle of joy. For some, the feeling of joy that a new baby brings can easily become burdensome when the costs of car seats, baby formula, diapers etc. begin to add up. To help alleviate those costs, The Baby Place Fund was established and proceeds from the Heroes for Babies community event help support it.
“I co-chair AdventHealth Altamonte’s Heroes for Babies initiative because I was so blessed to have support during my child birth – the difference that support makes in the life of a baby is the reason I’m involved,” Kristy shared.
She and Susan work with a committee comprised of nine other individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of our littlest patients. Together, this committee has raised about $134,269.85 for the Baby Place Fund from 2015 - 2019.
“Supporting AdventHealth allows me to fuel my passion for health care,” said Susan. “The team is exceptional with the outstanding support they provide to the community and as a volunteer that’s easy to get behind.”
We truly count it a blessing to have volunteers like Kristy and Susan who are committed and compassionate about helping others. We appreciate the hard work and effort they put into making the Heroes for Babies event a success every year.
