Jose Arambul has been named Gordon Hospitals latest SonShine Award recipient. This award was established by Gordon Hospital in 2017 to honor the hard work and dedication of its employees. Quarterly awards provide opportunities for employees, patients, and visitors to recognize and reward employees and teams for exceptional accomplishments and demonstrated behaviors that are aligned to the mission, vision, and values of Gordon Hospital.
The name SonShine was developed by Gordon Hospital employees. The recipients of the SonShine award shine for the Son of God through their warm and comforting care they provide to patients and their fellow employees.
, a member of the nutritional services team, received a nomination by Emily Lindsey, clinical dietician for Gordon Hospital, who said the following: When I think of a true servants heart, I think of someone who is selfless. Jose Arambul comes to mind without hesitation. Jose works as a host on the weekends to deliver patient meals while also assisting in multiple areas of the kitchen. Aside from working 12-hour shifts every weekend, Jose attends classes during the week to pursue his degree in psychology.
Patient stories, positive comments, and praises come from every team member when asking about Jose. Joses primary role in the department is to deliver meals to patients and make sure they have everything needed. However, Jose goes above and beyond this task daily.
The team can always expect Jose to be at work at least twenty minutes before his scheduled time begins to review diet orders and prepare trays tickets for breakfast. His relationship and collaboration with other team members are demonstrated daily as he assists the team in food prepping, prepping the tray line, cooking meals, assisting in the dish room, and multiple other tasks the team needs assistance with. Without hesitation, Jose will volunteer to assist someone before they even ask.
His willingness to assist, train, and educate other staff members is unequaled. When Jose delivers menus for the patients, he thoroughly explains the menu according to the patients diet restrictions and assists the patient as needed. He assures the patient has everything they need when delivering their meal. His worth ethic is beyond exceptional, not only by the tasks he performs, but more importantly, the quality of work and dedication he portrays with his coworkers and patients. Jose recently passed the ServSafe training exam, which only exemplifies the knowledge, dedication, and commitment he has towards our hospital and patient safety and health.
There are multiple stories to share that paint a picture of the servants attitude and compassionate heart Jose displays. For example, Jose was emotionally touched when a terminally ill patient and her fiance wanted to marry while in the hospital. He not only made sure they were provided with quality meals, but he went the extra step to prepare a special meal and dessert for the couple to celebrate. Another patient and her husband were celebrating their 50th anniversary while in the hospital, and Jose felt the need to make them a small wedding cake with decorations for them to celebrate. Jose also gives special attention to patients birthdays and will go out of his way to make a cake for them.
Jose's positive personality is contagious and has changed the attitudes within the department. Whether Jose is serving a coworker or a patient, he is consistently putting the needs of others before his own. His humility in doing so sets an example of what a true servant is.
