DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., May 11, 2017 In honor of National Healthcare Volunteer Week, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center hosted a volunteer appreciation luncheon at the Halifax River Yacht Club for more than 100 volunteers on April 18.
During the event, volunteers Pat Alekson and Dotty Welcher received special recognition for their service. Alekson has contributed 10,000 hours of volunteer service and Welcher has been a hospital volunteer for more than 50 years, contributing 15,000 hours of volunteer service.
Our volunteers are an essential part of our team, said Darlinda Copeland, Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center chief operating officer. We are so appreciative of our nearly 300 volunteers for donating their time and loving care to our patients and visitors, as well as their significant fundraising to support our hospital.
In its 50-year history, the Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary has donated more than $4.9 million to the hospital, helping support patient services, equipment investments, nursing education and the construction of new facilities.
