Richard Sanders, MD

Dr. Richard Sanders was drawn to Family Medicine by his passion for holistic, whole-person care—supporting patients through every stage of life, from prenatal to end-of-life. He brings genuine enthusiasm to his work, helping patients understand where they are in their health journey and guiding them toward where they could be. He views each diagnosis as a unique process of discovery, tailored to the individual.

In his practice, Dr. Sanders provides care across a wide range of needs, including preventive medicine, acute infections, chronic conditions, mental health, musculoskeletal issues (both acute and chronic), and gender-affirming care. He also performs a variety of in-office procedures such as skin biopsies, IUD and Nexplanon insertions, trigger point injections, and knee injections.

Dr. Sanders earned his BA from the University of Denver and completed both his MD and PhD at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

He lives near AdventHealth Porter with his husband and their dog, enjoying the walkable neighborhood filled with great restaurants and local spots. He loves cooking for visiting friends and family, and frequently travels to see loved ones on both coasts. In his free time, he explores topics that sparked his curiosity during graduate school, plays piano, swims at the local rec center, watches movies, and volunteers in the community.

During his five years of PhD study, Dr. Sanders had the opportunity to deeply explore what holistic care truly means. That’s why AdventHealth’s “Feel Whole” philosophy resonates so strongly with him. While he recognizes that clinical care can only address certain aspects of health, he is committed to doing everything possible within those bounds—always keeping the broader picture of well-being in mind.
