Biography

Carole Nighswander, CNM, wants her patients to know that their voice matters. She believes her patients are the experts of their own body and experience. She sees her role as a trusted companion who will walk alongside her patients with respect, knowledge, and compassion. Whether her patients are navigating pregnancy, seeking reproductive care, or simply looking for a provider who listens, she is available to support decisions with honesty, empathy, and a deep commitment to her patient’s autonomy and well-being. Carole knows that each patient deserves care that honors their story, their choices, and their dignity.

Carol helps her patients with these conditions: comprehensive prenatal care and monitoring, labor and birth support, specialized natural and low-intervention births, postpartum care and support, family planning and contraceptive counseling, menstrual and hormonal health management, perimenopause and menopause care, breastfeeding support and lactation counseling, and preconception counseling and fertility awareness. She also handles these procedures: Pap smears and HPV testing, IUD and contraceptive implant insertion/removal, Nexplanon placement/removal, wet mount and microscopy for vaginal infections, and point-of-care testing (e.g., glucose, urinalysis, pregnancy tests).

Carole began her midwifery career at the National College of Midwifery in Taos. There she earned her first midwifery degree and became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). She returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Colorado. She then began working as a Labor and Delivery Nurse in the hospital setting, gaining valuable experience in high-acuity obstetric care. Carole received her Master of Science in Midwifery from the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus. Carole has been delivering babies for over 20 years.
