It’s never easy when you know a loved one won’t be able to be with you on a special occasion, so sometimes you just have to bring the special occasion to them. That was the case recently, when Chris Morrow and his fiancée Britney Kemp decided to get married in Morrow’s grandmother’s ICU room at AdventHealth Heart of Florida.
“Our wedding is set for Nov. 5, but we really wanted her to be a part of our special day, so we decided to have the wedding here, while she was still with us,’’ the new bride said. “I can’t tell you what it means to us to have had her witness it.’’
Grandmother Charlene Umstead, who has cancer, couldn’t keep the smile off her face as she watched the couple say "I do." She also made sure her signature was on the wedding license as a witness.
“I’m just so happy for them. I wish them all the happiness,’’ Umstead said.
The couple still plan to have their “second” wedding in November.
“We know she will be with us for that one, too,’’ Chris Morrow said his voice wavering.
