UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Bolingbrook, Hinsdale and La Grange have earned “A” safety grades from The Leapfrog Group, ranking among the safest hospitals in the nation for their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, infections and other patient harm.
The grades appeared in the spring 2025 edition of Leapfrog’s semiannual Hospital Safety Grade report. The Hinsdale and La Grange hospitals now have earned “A”s for 24 consecutive grading periods, beginning with Leapfrog’s fall 2013 report. The Bolingbrook hospital has received “A”s for six consecutive grading periods, beginning in fall 2022.
“These top safety grades are a testament to our medical teams’ strong commitment to excellence, including using the latest best practices and prioritizing patient safety in all they do,” said Monica Reed, M.D., president and chief executive officer of UChicago Medicine AdventHealth. “With their expertise, dedication and compassion, they drive our efforts to provide the highest-quality whole-person care, focusing not only on patients’ physical health, but also on their mental and spiritual well-being.”
Leapfrog, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the nation based on more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems that hospitals have implemented to prevent patient harm.
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, president and chief executive officer of Leapfrog. “I extend my congratulations to the Bolingbrook, Hinsdale and La Grange hospitals’ leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
