PALM COAST, Fla., July 30, 2018 Interventional cardiologist Dr. Dean Abtahi has joined the AdventHealth HealthCare Partners medical staff at AdventHealth Palm Coast.
AdventHealth HealthCare Partners is the employed group of more than 160 primary care physicians and specialists for the AdventHealth’s in Volusia and Flagler counties.
As an interventional cardiologist, Abtahi performs minimally invasive procedures in the heart, such as coronary angioplasty to open blocked arteries and implants coronary stents to hold open blocked arteries, as well as implants pacemakers and cardioverter-defibrillators to monitor and treat abnormal cardiac rhythms.
He graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in anthropology and obtained his medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He completed an internship and residency at the University of Florida Health Shand’s Hospital in Gainesville, where he also served as chief medical resident for the department of internal medicine. Abtahi went on to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to complete a general fellowship in adult cardiology and an advanced fellowship in interventional cardiology.
He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Faculty Excellence Educator Award at the Medical University of South Carolina for excellence in clinical medical student education; the Sir William Osler Award from the University of Florida department of internal medicine for demonstrating unyielding devotion to patient care and serving as an outstanding scientist, clinician and mentor to junior colleagues; and Intern of The Year from the University of Florida department of internal medicine for his exceptional work ethic, team spirit and patient care.
Abtahi has participated in several clinical research projects, as well as published abstracts, manuscripts and a book chapter.
In his new practice at AdventHealth Palm Coast, Abtahi provides comprehensive general and interventional cardiac care for ages 18 and older, including cardiac screening and prevention, cardiac stress testing, cardiac angioplasty and stenting, implanting pacemakers and cardioverter-defibrillators, and cardiac and vascular imaging, as well as peripheral vascular disease screening and treatment.
