On Tuesday, Nov. 7, Gordon Hospital hosted the 9th Annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer event in conjunction with the Lung Cancer Alliance. Calhoun joined approximately 200 cities where Shine a Light events took place in honor of Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
The event began with music from pianist McKenzie Everts and vocalist Carl Reiter. Dr. Eric Turner spoke about medical oncology in relation to lung cancer, and Sandy Holland, RN, spoke about radiation oncology in relation to lung cancer. Lung cancer survivor Glenn Warren then shared his story of hope and faith. To finish the program, Christine Bond, RN, spoke about the facility's low dose CT lung screening program, and Pastor Dave Smith spoke about the hospitals Breathe Free program, which helps tobacco users quit the habit.
The purpose of this event is to bring hope, inspiration, and support to the Gordon County lung cancer community, said Lanell Jacobs, director of oncology services at Gordon Hospital. This event is one way we can honor those impacted by lung cancer.
