Florida Hospital Zephyrhills is one of 750 hospitals in the United States that has been awarded an A by The Leapfrog Group for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest standards in the nation. The Leapfrog Group, based in Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit organization that focuses on improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. Its Safety Guide assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals nationwide based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections, and other harms among patients for whom they are caring.
The safety of our patients and their family members is a top priority at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, said Gwen Alonso, RN, Chief Nursing Officer. We are committed to ensuring that the highest standards of patient care and safety are delivered every day. Earning this top rating is a tremendous honor and we will continue to work hard to ensure that we retain it.
According to Leah Binder, President and CEO for The Leapfrog Group, this is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death such as medical errors, infections, and injuries. Receiving an A Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day, Binder added.
Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
Florida Hospital Zephyrhills was also named one of Americas Best Hospitals for Patient Safety in 2017 and 2018 by the Women's Choice Award, Americas trusted referral source for the best in health care.
