(Chatsworth, Ga.) Sonya Covington, a laboratory technician, has been awarded Murray Medical Centers Extra Mile Award.
This special award was created by members of the hospitals Employee Engagement Committee to recognize employees who go above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis. It is awarded monthly to deserving employees selected by the hospitals directors.
Covington was nominated by Lab Assistant Manager Janet Hawthorne, who said the following: Sonya is always a very hardworking and dependable co-worker, but she recently went above and beyond her call of duty to provide excellent patient care. Dr. Cook wanted a lab specimen to be sent to pathology for review, but the courier had already left for the day. Sonya volunteered to take the specimen to Gordon Hospital so the pathologist could review it first thing the next morning. She went out of her way to put the patient first. I am proud she is a part of our team.
