PALM COAST, Fla., March 23, 2018 On March 20, Florida Hospital Flagler hosted a free seminar on colorectal cancer.
Florida Hospital Flagler gastroenterologist Dr. Issam Nasr discussed common disorders and symptoms associated with the digestive system, including colorectal cancer.
Family history is an important factor when determining a persons risk and recommended age for beginning to screen for colorectal cancer, Nasr said. To reduce our risk for developing colorectal cancer, we can make several lifestyle choices. For example, quitting smoking and eating more fruits and vegetables are two simple ways we can help prevent colorectal cancer.
In addition, Nasr addressed several options for screening for colorectal cancer, including noninvasive, at-home screening options. However, Nasr explained that a colonoscopy is the only test that can detect pre-cancerous polyps, allowing doctors to fight colorectal cancer before it has an opportunity to develop.
