It’s the first full-service hospital to open in the Kansas City metro area in 15 years.
AdventHealth South Overland Park is now admitting patients to its full-service hospital in the BluHawk development at 165th and U.S. Highway 69. The hospital joins three additional hospital campuses in the AdventHealth Mid-America Region, including AdventHealth Shawnee Mission and AdventHealth Ottawa in Kansas, and AdventHealth Durand in Wisconsin, along with numerous other care locations in the Kansas City metro area, including AdventHealth Lenexa, AdventHealth College Boulevard and a future campus in Lenexa City Center.
Located at 7820 West 165th Street in Overland Park, the new facility includes 38 inpatient beds with surgical services, intensive care, heart care and maternity care. AdventHealth partnered with HKS Architects for the design and GE Johnson for the construction of the $150 million expansion. The hospital is 193,000 square feet with space for 85 total beds, allowing for future growth to accommodate growing southern Johnson County.
“Our patients have demonstrated clear need for expanded services in southern Johnson County and surrounding communities, and we are thrilled to provide these with our whole-person care approach,” said Alan Verrill, MD, chief executive officer for AdventHealth South Overland Park. “Our facilities and our staff provide so much more than medicine by caring for our patients’ body, mind and spirit and we are proud to have the opportunity to deliver this care in a beautiful, high-quality facility.”
With the new expansion, AdventHealth South Overland Park now joins its sister campus at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in offering a birth center and bringing maternity care services, including a level II NICU, closer to home for families in south Johnson County and surrounding communities. AdventHealth Shawnee Mission delivers more than 4,600 babies a year – nearly one in seven babies born in the state of Kansas each year are born at AdventHealth.
The new facility complements already existing emergency, imaging and laboratory services onsite that have served thousands of patients since opening in 2017. Over the next few weeks, the hospital will offer expanded services including colonoscopies and other GI procedures, cardiac cath lab procedures and orthopedic surgeries.
“AdventHealth is committed to improving access to health care and we are grateful for the opportunity to open this full-service hospital, expand our network and provide deeper care to this community,” said AdventHealth President/CEO Terry Shaw. “I appreciate the hard work of all those who brought this new hospital to life.”
