The AdventHealth Rocky Mountain Region Epilepsy Center, located at AdventHealth Littleton, is now accredited as a level 4 epilepsy center.
The accreditation, which comes from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), shows that AdventHealth’s Rocky Mountain Region has the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest-level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with epilepsy.
“In the Rocky Mountain Region, our teams have created a comprehensive space for patients and families, offering a high-quality approach through advanced medical and surgical expertise,” said Jacie Schoenfeld, Regional Director of Neurosciences in the Rocky Mountain Region. “Our highly specialized staff of neurologists, epileptologists, neurosurgeons, and other hospital teams provide not just medical and surgical treatment but also psychological, educational, and social support to patients and their families when they need it most. This truly is an outstanding accomplishment."
Before now, the AdventHealth Rocky Mountain Region Epilepsy Center was accredited as a level 3 epilepsy center. Level 4 centers provide the most complex forms of evaluation, monitoring, and treatment, and also offer a broad range of surgical procedures. The AdventHealth Rocky Mountain Region Epilepsy Center is now the second level 4 epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) in AdventHealth, alongside AdventHealth Orlando.
“This accreditation isn’t just a title, it’s a validation of the comprehensive, multidisciplinary care we offer to patients who often come to us after years of living with uncontrolled seizures. Many are diagnosed far later than ideal, and for them, having access to advanced diagnostics, surgical options, and a dedicated team in one place can be life changing,” said Mesha-Gay Brown, MD, Regional Neuroscience Medical Director. “Our Level 4 status signals to patients and referring providers that we have the expertise, infrastructure, and compassion to handle even the most complex epilepsy cases—and that we’re constantly pushing to improve outcomes and quality of life."
