AdventHealth Manchester had its first surgery in the $16.3 million surgery department Thursday, July 1st, 2021.
The first surgery was the delivery of baby girl, MaKenzie Collett, to her proud mother, Keyesha Collett of Manchester, KY. The delivering physician was AdventHealth Manchester’s OB/GYN specialist, Stephanie Hutchison, MD.
Dr. Shawn Gorden, Chief Surgeon and OB/GYN said, “this marks a great day for AdventHealth and community members. To have a state-of-the-art surgery department of this caliber in a small, rural hospital is astonishing.”
The design and construction phase cost $16.3 million and opened July 1, 2021. The new facility houses two surgical suites, a procedure room, and an additional room for future expansion. Residents of Clay and surrounding counties will have access to Orthopedics and Spine; Sports Medicine; Urology; Endoscopy; Podiatry; Ophthalmology; OB/GYN; and General Surgery services at this state-of-the-art facility. This project took four years of planning, and we broke ground on the project August 23, 2019.
Chris Self, AdventHealth CEO, stated, “A lot of work and planning has gone into this day, and today we mark history. We’re so excited for what this project means to the community and what it will do for the community in the future. This will allow us to recruit more physicians and offer more services right here at home for our patients and community. We’re committed to this hospital and the community and look for to the good work continuing for many years to come.”
