TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (Tuesday, August 29, 2023) – In a proactive response to the threat posed by Hurricane Idalia, AdventHealth North Pinellas successfully evacuated more than 60 patients to other AdventHealth facilities earlier today. The transfer of patients was completed early Tuesday afternoon and was driven by the hospital's commitment to ensuring the safety of patients, visitors and team members.
The decision to evacuate was made out of an abundance of caution, considering the projected storm surge of 5-7 feet, mandatory evacuation orders and the hospital’s proximity to the Gulf of Mexico.
Throughout the preparation phase leading up to Hurricane Idalia, AdventHealth North Pinellas has been in constant communication with state and local emergency management teams.
“Our top priority is the well-being of our patients, team members, and the community we serve,” said Ryan Quattlebaum, Chief Executive Officer of AdventHealth North Pinellas. "We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our exceptional doctors, nurses and clinical team members who have shown unwavering dedication and commitment during this challenging time. Their selflessness to ensure the safety and care of our patients is truly commendable."
As part of the evacuation efforts, AdventHealth North Pinellas is rescheduling all elective procedures taking place Tuesday and Wednesday, including surgeries, imaging, rehab, Cath Lab, endoscopies and more. These procedures will resume on Thursday and Friday.
AdventHealth North Pinellas is ensuring high-quality, whole-person health care continues for the region. The AdventHealth ER in Palm Harbor, located at 34106 US Hwy 19 N, Palm Harbor, is an 11-minute drive from AdventHealth North Pinellas. The Palm Harbor location will remain open and operational indefinitely throughout the storm.
