NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., Oct. 9, 2019 – AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach recognized registered nurse Maggie Holmes with the DAISY award.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses.
Holmes works in the intensive care unit and was nominated for this recognition by a patient.
“Maggie is a true blessing and AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach should feel very proud to have her on their nursing staff,” the patient wrote on her nomination form. “She was my calm, saving grace. She addressed my concerns by being upfront and honest about what to expect before the procedure. She kept me relaxed and grounded with her light jokes and warm smile. Maggie radiates positivity and is a true angel on Earth.”
While on vacation, Holmes chose to come into work to help this patient.
“She went above and beyond to make sure that I received exceptional patient care,” the patient added. “I don’t know very many people who would give up their vacation time for a complete stranger.”
Created in 1999, more than 2,500 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 15 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
In recognition of this honor, Holmes received a DAISY pin, a certificate, a tote bag and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the “Healer’s Touch” by an artist of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
Her unit, the AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach intensive care unit, also received cake, cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
