AdventHealth Gordon’s education department is hosting a community basic lifesaving (BLS) course on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm in Conference Room E in the North Entrance of the hospital.
This course trains community members basic lifesaving skills for adults, children and infants. Attendees will attain a BLS certification through the American Heart Association. The BLS course is practical for caregivers, foster parents, babysitters, college students, lifeguards, childcare workers or anyone who interacts with the public.
Skills learned in this course include:
- High-quality CPR for adults, children and infants
- The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
- Important early use of an AED
- Effective ventilations using a barrier device
- Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
