AdventHealth Gordon is proud to announce that the AdventHealth Harris Radiation Therapy Center is now offering tattoo and mark-free radiation therapy.
Traditional radiation therapy requires patients to receive small, often permanent tattoos on their skin in order to help the radiation therapist position them for treatment. Using AlignRT®, the AdventHealth Harris Radiation Therapy Center has joined a growing number of premiere radiation oncology centers around the world offering tattoo and mark-free treatments.
AlignRT uses 3D camera units to monitor a patient’s skin surface in real-time and compare it to the ideal position with no loss in accuracy when compared to tattoos and marks. This technique is called Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), and it ensures that radiation is delivered only when a patient is correctly positioned, enhancing their safety and comfort. AlignRT is non-invasive and completely non-contact, an increasingly important consideration for cancer patients, who often have weakened immune systems.
AdventHealth Gordon is constantly striving to provide the best possible care for our patients and has invested in this precision technology to enhance patient safety and comfort.
“We are extremely proud to offer this type of treatment for our patients,” said Emily Tarpley, operation manager oncology services at AdventHealth Gordon. “Our research has shown that our patients clearly prefer having the option of going tattoo and mark-free and we’re really pleased to be able to offer treatments that put our patients, their needs and their safety first.”
