DELAND, Fla., August 9, 2018 AdventHealth DeLand recognized registered nurse Natalia Canavan with the DAISY award.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses. Created in 1999, more than 2,400 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 14 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
Canavan was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and came to America in 2000 with a dream to become a nurse. In 2008, Canavan graduated from Daytona State College with an associate degree of nursing. In 2015, Canavan earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hunter Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City. In 2016, she moved to Florida and began working at AdventHealth DeLand on the oncology floor.
She was nominated for the DAISY award by a patient.
She is the epitome of what a nurse should be. What makes her stand out above all others is that she treated me like family. She always had a warm smile, was concerned about how I felt, was helpful, caring, loving, and best of all knowledgeable! the patient wrote. I myself work at a hospital and I hope I make my patients feel just like she does. She stayed late every night making sure all her patients were well taken care of. My care was the absolute best I have ever received while at a hospital. I believe this was only possible because I had Natalia as my nurse in charge of my care! Thank God for her and I will be forever thankful and blessed for having had her as my nurse!
In recognition of this honor, Canavan received a $200 gift card, a vase of daisies, an award pin, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the Healers Touch by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
Her team, the nurses on the oncology floor at AdventHealth DeLand, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
