Biography

Derek Leaderer, MD, PhD, is a board-eligible vascular surgeon and board-certified general surgeon following more than ten years of postgraduate training and research. He earned his medical degree and PhD in genetics from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He then finished a six-year general surgery residency followed by a two-year vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Earlier in his career, Dr. Leaderer was appointed to a research role at Yale Medical School in New Haven, Connecticut, and Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York, New York. Dr. Leaderer has published extensively on topics related to molecular epidemiology, cancer risk, ocular gene therapy, and vascular anomalies. He has presented his work at multiple national conferences and is a co-inventor on two patents related to gene therapy and aptamer treatment.
